When I first saw this car posted in Stanceworks website a couple of years ago, I started to open our local car classified websites to find almost the same local model in Malaysia. I almost bought one but the owner behaviour is not acceptable.
At first he said he is at his work and only available on weekend. But when an arrangement were made suddenly he said the car have been sold. Keeping a promise is one thing but if he does received a good offer, I feel great for him but please say it nicely. That’s the end of my story.
Jeremy Whittle is not an uncommon name among Stanceworks team members. They have been followed his build from the car still in stock condition. Swapping a Z4 to an old E28 model is a hard decision for some body but not him.
The E28 was started as production car from 1981 to 1988 by the BMW. A wide range of engine have been used to power the car. On early 1981, a 518 model were powered by carbureted engine follow by a 518i model with a fuel injection engine. By late 1987, BMW have introduce the M5 as a high end model for the 5-Series. These model were later been replaced by E34 model.
Back to our Jeremy Whittle’s E28, his car had received several phases of upgrade. One of his major changes is to swap the engine to a 2.5 1JZ engine which usually found in Supra. The changes make some hard core BMW fans are not comfortable with it and it is a normal scene (You can read their comment here). Other than that, Jeremy also have fitted his E28 with custom Air Lift air suspension.
Air suspension conversion is a good things to do for a car which meant to be lifted at certain emergency condition since it can avoid bump and it gave a better ride and more comfort. With this custom conversion, it is now allow many people to take a ride in his E28 at the same time instead of just having a one person car.
I also have trouble explaining to other people that my car can only give a ride to a one person. Some people thought I drive 2 seaters car and some even worst that they thought I have a baby seat on my rear seat.
Jeremy have fitted HRE wheels on both sides and it really make this car stood up. Move to its interior, the torn seats have been replaced with red leather seat from the E30. Although the conversion have been made to its heart, the dashboard are still remain the same with a new Nardi steering wheel. It suite the overall interior perfectly.
Each time looking back at Jeremy’s E28, my passion for me to find the right E28 keeps heated up. Some day, I may found the right E28 with the right price and condition. Maybe you guys can start searching for it too and share it with us.
